Nowadays, solar roof-top system for power generation are becoming more popular because, generation of electricity through thermal/hydro or nuclear i.e. convertor plant is becoming more & more expensive and is not environment friendly. Frequent power cuts has actually increased the dependency on DG sets, thus environment is getting more and more damaged.
People have started thinking of alternate way to satisfy their energy needs. Demand & supply gap for electricity is increasing day by day. Keeping this issue in mind Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India is promoting off grid & on grid solar PV system under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission in the country. Many people in the country are installing solar PV system for their home, apartment complex, offices, and schools, etc.
There are two basic systems:
On- Grid Solar System:
In an on-grid or grid tie solar system the generation system is connected to utility source or electrical service provider i.e. power supply co. Excess generated power can be sent to the grid when you are overproducing, so you get credit for it.
It is the simplest and the most cost effective to install. This system will pay for them by offsetting utility bills in the 5-8 years. This is a good choice to reduce your electric bill and to reduce carbon footprint.
Off – Grid Solar System:
In an off- grid system your generation system is not connected to the utility grid/power supply co. and you are producing your own electricity for your own use via solar, etc. It also known as the stand alone photovoltaic system.
