Lighting can make or break the ambience of room. Lighting is an important aspect of interior design. It brighten up the space and ambiance of a living space. Light is the main element that gives the room a special look coordinating with its functionality and style.

Angle of lighting is the angle at which lighting fixtures are supposed to be fixed to efficiently utilize the light emitted by lighting fixtures.

Following are the angles of lighting:

  • Backlighting

Downlighting Angle of Light is Downwards:

Downlighting is the method of lighting, with fixtures installed into a hollow opening in a ceiling.Downlights are the fixtures which has housing that is inset into the ceiling. When fixture is turned on, it looks like light is shining down out of the ceiling, concentrating the light in a downward direction as a broad floodlight or narrow spotlight. It is the most efficient method of lighting. Downlights are capable of giving a gentle, even and shadow free light. These lights are mainly used in kitchens and bathrooms.

Downlights are of following Types:

  • Fixed: The lamp is usually fixed within the holder either by using a spring clip or by a twist lock mechanism.
  • Gimbal: It is same as fixed light. The only difference is that the fitting can be tilted, allowing adjustment of the spotlight beam.
  • Eyeball: These can be adjusted through a greater range as it has a protruding eyeball containing lamp.
  • Wall Washer: It has a lamp contained within a hinged housing that can rotate to 90 deg.

Uplighting Angle of  Light is Upwards :

Uplighting is the method of lighting created by strategically placing lighting fixtures on the floor and pointing them up. By uplighting, the light is bounced off from ceiling. It is effectively used for dramatic effect with indoor and outdoor plants or across textured surfaces of brick or stone. Perfect for weddings, corporate events, concerts, school dances, birthday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, anniversary parties, or any party you’re hosting.

Front Lighting Angle of Light is Focused on Frontier of Any Object :

Front lighting is used to highlight artwork on the walls or artefacts. This improves its performance on poor lighting conditions. Spotlights helps in achiving this lighting. This type of lighting tends to make the subject look flat

Side Lighting Angle of Light is Away from Object :

It is the lighting that is placed at the side of object. The purpose of side lighting is to increase the visual depth of a 3D object. Wall light fixtures works best as side lighting.

Back  Lighting Light is  Placed  behind the Object :

Back lighting illuminates the object from its backside. This creates glowing effect on the edges of the subject, keeping other areas dark.
