ATG tape, or adhesive transfer tape, is a double-sided adhesive used in picture framing to attach mat boards and dust covers. This tape forms a strong, permanent connection with plastic, vinyl, metal, and fabric, making it a great tool for framing and other home tasks.

Let us know more about what is ATG tape and its dispenser.

What is ATG Tape?

ATG stands for Adhesive Transfer Gun. This double-sided tape is designed in tape gun dispensers to expedite the application process.

In contrast to traditional adhesive transfer tapes, adhesive transfer tapes are wrapped on plastic reels rather than cardboard reels and maybe slipped into an ATG tape gun and applied in lengths to your material as necessary.

It is available in a range of widths and adhesion levels, beginning at 6 mm and increasing to 12 mm, 16 mm, and 18 mm tapes. Adhesion comes in several forms, including permanent, high-tack tape and one-sided peelable tape.

ATG tapes are used for display work, image mounting, exhibition, and point-of-purchase displays, mock-ups, all sorts of display applications, presentation folders, and even craft and scrapbooking.

What is an ATG Dispenser?

ATG DispenserATG tape (adhesive transfer gun) dispenser is a device that is used to apply a reverse-wound adhesive transfer tape. The tape is designed and wrapped so that the sticky side is facing out. Using the ATG dispenser, you can apply the adhesive while simultaneously peeling off the liner and re-threading it into the dispenser. These dispensers are utilized for light-duty mounting in repeating print and frame operations where a consistent glue application is required.

Uses of ATG Tape

For projects like scrapbooking, picture framing, photo mounting, and other types of graphic arts, adhesive transfer gun tape is the go-to solution. ATG tape is extensively used to form strong, durable connections with wood, glass, paper, the majority of plastics, paint, and metal foils. Additionally, there are products available that are acid-free or pH or acid neutral, ensuring that the tape will not yellow or harm your photograph or artwork with time. ATG Tape is a great substitute for double-sided tape.

ATG tape has a plethora of applications. Since the dispenser ensures a good, smooth application of adhesive with little mess, no tape bunching, and the ability to make straight lines it is ideal for various jobs mentioned below:

  • Scrapbooking, photo albums
  • Boxing up heirlooms
  • Photo mounting
  • Cards/stationery
  • Posters
  • Presentations
  • Adhesion of plastic or metal foils
  • Science fair projects
  • Bulletin boards
  • Nameplate mounting
  • Packaging any fabric item, like wedding dresses or Christening gowns

How to Load the ATG Dispenser?

01. To begin, open the casing using the clasp on the bottom of the pistol.

02. Arrange the pistol horizontally on a flat table and lift the hinged cover.

03. In a clockwise motion, load the tape onto the larger front mechanism.

04. Assemble the tape roll as closely as possible to the gear mechanism, taking care not to damage anything. You may need to turn the tape roll completely downward.

05. Maintaining pressure on the trigger, gradually draw the tape over the bigger roller, down under the smaller smooth roller, and back over the tape. Make sure there is no slack in the tape.

06. You can now release the trigger. Allow yourself plenty of extra tapes to work with. Continue rolling the tape counterclockwise beneath the second “take up” mechanism, weaving the end of the tape in and out of the grooves. If required, you can crank the smaller black take-up wheel. Remove any extra tape.

07. If required, adjust the tension by twisting the inner silver tension wheel clockwise (to tighten) or counterclockwise (to loosen). Although the factory settings are most likely right, if required you change them following the above instruction.

08. Snap the lid shut gently, and you are ready to tackle all those paper crafting tasks!
