Sitting postures dimensions are important in designing, mainly while we are designing chair. Proper dimension of furniture according to the human dimension will reduce ergonomics risk.

Sitting Height

The subject sits erect, look straight ahead with his knees and ankles forming right angles. Sitting height is the vertical distance from sitting surface to the top of the head.

Eye Height

This is the distance between the sitting surface and the inner corner of the eye.

  Shoulder Height

 Knee Height

This is the vertical distance from floor to uppermost point of the knee while subject sits erect with knee and ankles at right angles

Thigh Height

Horizontal distance from the posterior point of the buttocks to the anterior point on the knee is known as buttock knee length while the subject sits erect with his knees and ankles at right angles.

 Buttock Popliteal Length

This is the horizontal distance from the plane of the most posterior point on the buttocks to the back of the knee. The subject sits straight with his knees and ankles at right angles.

 Popliteal Height

The vertical distance from floor to the underside of the thigh immediately behind knee while subject sits erect with his knees and ankles at right angles and bottom of his thighs and the back of his knees barely touching the sitting surface is known as the buttock politeal length.

 Buttock Leg Length

This is the horizontal distance from the outer surface of buttocks to the base of the heel while subject sits erect with his legs as forward as possible on a horizontal surface

  Hip Breadth

This is the maximum horizontal distance between hips. The subject sits erect with his knees and ankles right at angles and his knees and heels together.

 Shoulder to Shoulder Breadth

Maximum horizontal distance across the external surface of biceps muscles is known as shoulder to shoulder breadth. The subjects sits erect with his upper arms touching his sides and his forearms extended horizontally.

The maximum horizontal distance across the outer surface of the elbows while subject sits erect with part of shoulder to elbow vertical and touching his sides and his forearms extended horizontally.

 Fore Arm Hand Length

The subject sits erect with his upper arm vertical at his side and his forearm, hand and fingers extended horizontally. The horizontal distance from the tip of the right elbow to the tip of middle finger.
