Every person has, at some point in their lives, been in awe of a piece of decor in a friend or relative’s home and been greeted with a beaming “I did it myself” response when asked where it had come from. Well, folks, it’s hardly rocket science to figure out how to improve the appearance of a vase, a lamp, or even a plain box. One needs some time and passion for the subject.

Accent Accessories

The decorative style of a room is largely dependent upon the characteristics of the building; so seek to emphasise original features and cover up less appealing ones. What is important to keep in mind about the accessories in the space is that they depend on and reflect the character and interests of the occupants. Vases, containers, lamps, boxes and frames can all highlight a particular personal curiosity, whether historical or geographical, classical or modern. Accessorising can take many forms, from subtle frame distressing, reflecting an interest in traditional woods, to hand-painted floor coverings that honour other cultures.

Painting On Vase

Making your own pot designs is a really pleasant project in the accent item category. Ceramic paints, which are available from arts and crafts stores, can be used to decorate a basic vase.

Painting on Vase

According to Martin Robertson (Author of the book – The Art of Vase-Painting in Classical Athens), vase painting is a very ancient art, which is seen in remnants from the sixth century in Athens, Greece.

Decant the paint into a small kettle or pot and sponge on tint combinations of the same colour or be more adventurous and mask out an area for hand-painting. In this way, you could match your pot with the colour scheme of a room or show off your artistic talent by creating a picture. This article offers a straightforward DIY painted vase idea; for additional possibilities, see our in-depth article:
