Floor Them With Your Hand-Painted Canvas Floor Covering

Your search for hypo-allergenic rugs to suit your decorative needs ends here! Through this blog, Gharpedia shares the steps involved in creating your own custom-designed rug with a floor cloth.

Hand-painted, individually designed canvas floor coverings owe their origins to the early New World pioneers, who reputedly re-used their boat sails as the raw material. The design on this canvas continues on a historical American theme, using colours and shapes used by native people of the southwest desert states.

The following are the things required for hand painted canvas floor covering:

The Step-By-Step Process in Making Hand Painted Canvas Floor Covering

Designed Canvas Floor Covering
  1. Square up the raw canvas, leaving a 5 cm border to be folded over, and cut the corners diagonally.
  2. Fold the border to conceal the rough edges and iron in the crease after damping down the canvas.
  3. Use double-sided carpet tape (available from hardware stores) to secure the folded border permanently in position.
  4. While some canvases are sold pre-primed, some are sold raw. If you buy yours raw, give it a coat of white acrylic primer.
  5. Pencil your geometric design onto the canvas, using a set square measure and straightedge to keep it symmetrical.
  6. Painting: Use a number zero artist’s brush to fill in the corners.
  7. Use masking tape to achieve an accurate, straight side stripe.
  8. Use brown paper to protect the finished areas as you work.

Voila…! Your hand-painted, individually designed canvas floor covering is ready to attract gasps of admiration from the onlookers! Not only this, you now have your personalized and non-toxic floor mat, which is the perfect blend of art and craft to withstand the wear-and-tear of boots and paws for many years to come.
