A bay window is a versatile addition to any house. It adds beauty and style to the exterior part of the house and adds new space to the interior of the house. It allows more light and ventilation to the interior part of the house.

Bay window may be half square, semi-hexagonal, semi-octagonal or semi-circular in plan. The bay window has angles of 90, 135, or 150 degrees, though triangular bays formed of two windows set at 120 degrees are also found.

01. Box Bay Window:

  • Box bay windows have a 90-degree angle to make a box like a shape. It includes one large window with smaller windows on either side, often with storage or a sitting area in the middle.
  • Generally, these types of bay windows are used for ornaments or plants.
  • The box is often installed below the height of your head and is sometimes placed in a kitchen to offer view and light without upsetting the shape of the house.
  • The box bay window is a more economical form as far as concerned.

02. Bow Window:

  • It is a curved window that sticks out from the wall of the house.
  • A bow window is designed to create space by projecting beyond the exterior wall of a building. It provides a wider view of the garden or street outside and combines four or more casement windows.
  • It forms an outward curve.
  • It may be found on any level of a building.

03. Circle Bay Window:

  • A circle bay window is a new version of the bow window, joining a combination of windows together into a smooth circular area.
  • They are often enclosed around home corners.
  • Circle bay window becomes fashionable during the Gothic era and is popular in master living rooms, bedroom suites and dining nooks.

04. Oriel Window:

  • An oriel window increases the size of a room cost effectively, allowing optimum use of a restricted site.
  • It projects from the upper story of a house, supported on brackets or corbels.
  • They are good means of improving a view that is not too special but where the street has an attractive view at the far end. For examples, a seaside town, where terraced houses may be crammed in a street but the view of the sea at the end is well worth seeing.

The types of bay windows you choose will depend on the architecture of your home, and climate. Bay window can change the look and feel of a room more than any other types of windows.
