The monsoon with itself brings a craving for delicious food. Beverages, samosa, pakora, vada pav, corn, chaat (Indian Food) are the best part of the rainy season. They make us love these days. The elders savor upon hot coffee with crunchy fried fritters and snacks.

Walk carrying a Colourful Umbrella - Enjoy Monsoon

The monsoon is awesome and welcoming for the first fortnight, after that it becomes boring especially for the homemakers because there are a lot of problems and troubles associated with continuous rain.

With the advent of monsoon, there is an unusual odour in the home, garden and wardrobes, which can be a havoc. Different types of insects and pests surface out and the snakes are seen changing their hiding places in the monsoons. Snakes reside in dry hollow holes and in monsoon, when the holes get filled with water, they leave their shelters in search of a new hideout and sometime, they may walk into our home.

Monsoon proves scary when the house is full of filthy odour, mosquitoes, flies, pests, moss, moulds and fungus, etc. In the rainy season, there are air borne diseases and water borne diseases which pose serious health threats. Rainy season facilitates the bacterial, home insects, fungal growth too. The road is littered with wet garbage and the potholes are filled with dirty water. Since there is a problem of water logging during the rainy season, mosquitoes get favorable conditions to breed. Soon, our positive vibes seems to appear threatening and we don’t want to ply on roads…and if we have to, we are left with hardly any choice!

Wet Garbage & the Potholes are Filled with Dirty Water

According to ‘Koilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute’ you have to be very cautious of these monsoon diseases, cold, cough, running nose and flu are common problems of this season that attack children faster due to the fluctuating temperature. Amongst the waterborne diseases, dysentery is the biggest problem apart from the fact that diseases like Malaria, Hepatitis, cholera, typhoid etc. spread widely and faster during this season. People with low immunity get easily caught up during monsoon ride. Hence, they need to be more careful during this season.

It is required for us to be over cautious during monsoons for our health and wealth, both. 😛 (smiley)

05. Terrace Level Difference

‘Shri Mahadev Desai’ (CMD of Sthapati Designers & Consultants Pvt. Ltd., a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy firm in India) says that, in most of the houses or even in apartments, the common detailing mistake that occurs, is the terrace slab and the slab of the staircase cabin i.e. the top step of the staircase is kept at the same level. Actually, the last step should be 150 mm or 6” higher than the terrace slab so that when you do water proofing, the level of the terrace will not go above stair cabin / step level. When this procedure is not followed, the terrace actually comes at a higher level. And you do some threshold work with stone or make some other arrangement, so that the water from the terrace does not enter the house. This is a very serious mistake and if it is there in your house you must attend it and correct it immediately, so that you solve the problem not only for this monsoon but for all monsoons to come.

As a homemaker, your responsibility doubles in monsoons. You are required to be extra careful because germs breed faster in rainy season.
