Two-third of thief enters through a door & one third enters in home through window. Fitting your doors and windows with good locks are good option to preventing home by them.

Safety for Door:

  • An automatic rim latch lock. These can be open from the inside without a key.
  • A five lever lock.
  • A letter box cage to prevent thieves tampering with locks through the letter box.
  • Fit your back and front door with five lever mortice lock. Fit both sides of door with security lock.

 Make Outside Door & Window More Stronger:

  • Fitting more hinge bolts for extra security.
  • But special film to stick on glass panel or replace those glass panels with laminated glass to make them more difficult to break.
  • Fitting peephole & security chain to your front door.
  • Fit window locks with keys that are easy to reach. Keep keys in a safe place, out of sight and reach, Keep them close to the window so you can reach during the fire escape but not on the sill.
  • Install wire mesh and grill on the all windows.

Locking:

Most thief will look for opened windows and unlocked doors to get in the house.

  • Lock all your outside doors and also check whether all your windows are locked or not. If you are popping out of for a few minutes, fully lock your doors and windows before you go.
  • Keep your keys in a safe place. don’t leave them in the locks or around the house. Remember, the first places a thief will look for your door key like, under the doormat, in a flower pot & piece of string through the letter box.

  • Keep your ladder and garden tools locked away.
  • Keep your valuable out of sight.
  • Leave a front room light on while you are going out at evening. Do not cover your curtain fully, leave some gap so the light can be seen from outside.

  • Outdoor lighting not only acts as deterrent, but also helps to find your way easily if you are coming or going after dark.
  • You can install low level light that automatically switches on during dark or you can you can install light with sensor, light will switches on when it sense movement outside your home.
  • Burglar alarms will deter opportunist burglars and also will increase the security of your house.

Valuables:

  • Always mark your possessions with your personal code, postcode & number of your house or flat. It will make stolen property harder to sell.
  • Don’t keep more extra jewellery or money at home.

In case of going away:

Keep your home more safe in case you are going away for a longer time.

  • Cancel your regular deliveries like newspaper, if a thief sees parcels or newspaper on your doorstep, it is easy to detect that you are away.

  • Plug a lamp into your automatic or time switch that will automatically turn on in the evening while you are away.
  • Ask a friend or neighbor to keep an eye on your home for you. check your contents and building insurance is up to date.
