Blockboard is the man made product similar to plywood but the center layer or core is made from strips of softwood. It is better than particle board and Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). It is stronger and lasts longer. It is light in weight so easy to transport. These boards have good dimensional stability (even when exposed to humidity), and exhibit high resistance to warping or twisting.

The blockboards manufactured in India have the standard thickness and sizes values. Its sizes are usually known by the shopkeepers in the market in terms of square feet. Likewise, these boards price are quoted on area bases i.e. per sq.ft.
As per I.S Code: 1659, the thickness of blockboards can be of 12 mm, 15 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 45 mm or 50 mm.
